Just a few of the many advantages of gaining really good career planning skills
- Less or no anxiety regarding career choice - by reducing doubts or increasing options
- Clarity on why different careers may or may not match you as well as you might think
- Developing motivational and tailored visions of where you want to go
- Avoid excess stress due to a mismatch of who you are with the demands of the role
- Show how the medical career can be a vehicle in which you achieve YOUR career dreams
- (and not a treadmill that others can at times try to squash you in)
- A greater feeling of career success - whatever that means for YOU personally
- Fashion plan B and plan Z career options (albeit on back burners) for extra security
- Learn not to be obsessive about any one career option, to be flexible and adaptable
- Realise that you do not "be" a doctor - you are you and you work as a doctor
- Know your boundaries and when enough is enough
- Understand yourself well and how to sell yourself well too
- Medical Forum has a new service due to be launched this summer
A series of tools and facilities to encourage good career planning practice throughout the career
and tailored for medical students.
We feel VERY strongly that we need to share some of our decades of career management
support with students.
Why? - The medical career has become more complex & rigid yet paradoxically with more opportunities - a difficult cocktail to fathom on ones own.
- The NHS is not always considering the individuals' needs in their career - highly enough
- As a result medics need to gain not just ok, not just good but excellent career handling skills in order to get the best from their professional life.
Why Tuesday night?
Because one thing we have learned from our decades providing career support to the profession is this...
Give regular protected time to career thinking and learning and planning - things generally go well.
Avoid doing this - and things are far far more likely to drift off course or even go badly wrong.
And we had to pick a night!
The more you schedule to listen in the more you will gradually pick up really good career planning skills - by osmosis - merely by taking the trouble to call in. Both you and your career deserve to be top priority.
