What are we?
Medical Forum is an independent career guidance facility for the medical and dental professions.
We are a cross between an internet social enterprise and a medical human resources management consultancy.
We have a range of memberships and services available - suitable for both individuals with career concerns and organisations or medical educationalists with responsibility for providing career support to trainees and colleagues.
Unique
Medical Forum is a unusual in a number of ways
1. we have a completely innovative style for supporting career decision making (you won't find our approach anywhere else) - the words "holistic" and "empowering" are often used by our clients
2. we work as a "virtual" organisation"
- phones answered in a central location but remote from where our main personnel are based
- postal address in Hampshire
- one to one Personal Career Programmes currently conducted in Hampshire
- email consultations conducted globally
- web hosting in Stockbridge Hampshire
3. although we are completely independent - we work closely with those in medical education to ensure that our services remain in tandem and focused on current issues in medical careers. Liaison has been particularly strong with Wessex, London,Trent and NW deaneries.
4. we have been working solely on the area of careers guidance since 1990 (well before the 2003/4 surge of interest in this and current F1/F2 career guidance needs) and have thus amassed an unusually in depth and broad perspective on medical career management
5. our work takes us beyond just UK medical careers and because many of our facilities are "distance learning" to date we have assisted doctors with career concerns in North America, The Antipodes, Europe, USSR and Asia
This flexible and "global" perspective enables us to take a view on medical career planning worldwide, keep overheads low and divert most of the revenue we receive from our fee paying services back into expanding the free services.
6. we started our mission with "doctors", swiftly added dentists and now have other professionals approaching us.
