Staff grade/associate specialist/ clinical assistant/SAS/LATS

Why would a doctor in any of these posts need career guidance?

A feeling that they had chosen the wrong speciality (or career)

A desire to return to a career grade pathway

A feeling of boredom

Not feeling valued enough

Lack of autonomy

For some doctors the return to training grades or obtaining CCST may be impossible yet for others it is achievable.  Sometimes career planning support is about coming to terms with what is and what is not realistic whilst acknowledging that if career dissatisfaction lurks – something needs to be done about this. The options will be different for each individual but might include (in broad terms)

A change to another post in the same speciality at the same or different grade

Entry into a training post

A change to a different career route in medicine

Some new challenges set either within or outside the current career

A bolt on or replacement non clinical career route

Getting a plan together to be more “noticed” and valued

There are many possible “starting points” at Medical Forum but if any of the above is striking a chord with you – we would suggest starting with one of our memberships, perhaps obtaining one or more publications (eg from Career Matrix) or joining the Virtual Career Tutor.
