Key aims of the toolkit.

Our key aims with this materials is that it should

  • provide materials that offer a quick, simple introduction to persons with no or little experience in giving or seeking career guidance
  • be easily reproducible so that a widespread usage occurs and a cascade system develops to increase the penetration of career guidance understanding at all grades
  • foster common terminology and provide effective and eventually auditable frameworks for career discussions
  • provide ongoing development for related career support training materials so that as the prevalence of career support and planning skills raises - the toolkit remains relevant

Over a period of years it is intended that the items in the toolkit will increase as the knowledge base of the users in medical education starts to expand. The initial items were only the two workbooks and the powerpoint presentations. Within less than a year there are additional materials - often designed by or contributed to by the user base.  The toolkit represents a start point - given that training on career guidance in medicine (for those delivering and those seeking career support)  is in relative infancy.

Career support, neither the giving or seeking of it, is not rocket science. The methodology in the toolkit  is based on a distillation of Medical Forum’s experience since 1990 providing independent career guidance to the medical profession.
