Career management skills

We have identified 32 career management skills over the years we have been working on career guidance - all of which have the potential to make or break a career.

In theory we all need to know all of them and most of us could do with improving most of them. However this is just too daunting. The good news is that, at any one time with any one career challenge pending - it is only one or two career management skills that will be holding you back. Identify the right ones and well..... folk might not see you for dust!

It can be quite a challenge to identify which of the skills would in fact make this big difference. We have several suggestions for working out which skills would if addressed most help your career right now.

  • Career guidance essentials - individual: this is a distance learning course covering some of the basics that you can apply to your own career. One of the lessons specifically deals with the 32 career management skills and some simple ways of working out which skills to pay more attention to.
  • Career Review: sometimes merely completing the workbook can help to define some skill areas worthy of addressing. However the best way is to return the workbook for our feedback. One section in our summary will focus on any skill areas that we feel may need to be worked upon.

The skills bank

This is a growing section of the web site containing a selection of career management skills e-courses.

The courses are.....

  1. short - so not too time consuming (max 2 hours total)
  2. delivered electronically - so convenient and private
  3. condensed - so give  a fast overview of the topic
  4. prompt self reflection - a valuable learning method
  5. for self directed learning initially but can be upgraded to a personalised feedback version
  6. catalysts for revealing further skills needs

One skills bank e-course (out of a choice of three titles) can be joined free of charge by completing a guest registration form

To read more about the 32 career management skills please join our Career Guidance Essentials training pack for self directed learning.
