A poem is an artefact, but once the first words are down on the paper, it has a life of itsown to which the writer/reader can relate. A dialogue emerges where previously there was silence, emptiness and loneliness.

Career Poems

Poetry seems to access the parts that other career guidance techniques can not reach.

We ask, within and as a small part of the Career Review (ie everyone seeking tailored career support from us) for a poem entitled "My Career".

The poems are often moving, sometimes sad, at times highly creative, occasionally funny, even wry but always always revealing. So much so, that we often turn to that page in the workbook first.

We don't expect Poet Laureate (although we do sometimes receive great works).Any style of poetry goes.... sonnet, lymeric, rhyming, non rhyming, prose, metered, non-metered, haiku etc.

It seems that the process and art of writing poetry delves much deeper than more formal questionning on career issues can ever do. Some complain... "haven't written a poem since school" - but all offerings add some special quality to the overall impression given by the workbook.

We have amassed a small collection of some career poems (anonymous where requested).
If you have a career poem you would like to submit - please use our feedback form.
We reserve the right to include only those poems we feel are right for this web site.

Like psychotherapy, poetry has the capacity to home in on tiny moments of experience,to amplify them, put them under the microscope and so make them accessible to conscious awareness
