Vision
Career planning is all about "vision". Without it you can end up some where you don't want to be.
But getting a clear vision in the first place does not always come easily. Medical Forum started out in 1990 with a "vision" of
changing the way in which career guidance was delivered to the medical profession
It has taken nearly twenty years to achieve but now all deaneries, Trusts and medical schools and even the DoH (cough splutter) are directing some funds and resources towards improving the provision of career support. Did we have anything to with that evolution? We like to think so. Combine that cultural change with the highly motivated medical education champions who are genuinely behind the "career support" concept and career guidance can't fail to remain on the agenda (though we would still like to see it higher!)
However - our work is not yet done. Visions need to morph over time. Our vision now is..
- to ensure that every medical student and doctor has access to independent career guidance
- to continue our strong history of innovation in career guidance
- to take the systems we have developed to other professional groups
Will it take another twenty years? Who knows.... but it WILL happen!
